in the fall of 2004, i went to a Magnolia Electric Co. show at Sala Rossa in Montréal. I sincerely thought, five minutes after the show had started, that it was meant as a deeply ironic Neil Young tribute (at least in comparison to the Songs:Ohia show i had been at five years before in Brighton, where Molina had been all alone on stage).
it was not, of course. needless to say, i quickly left the show.
on this Western Vinyl 7" - it's the last post with that tag on, one goal achieved... - Molina takes another kind of Youngish path. Less americana, more Dead Man style, he's overtly quoting one guitar riff of the soundtrack.
definitely an essential song in his extensive discography.
