VERSUS wallflower

.

coming as a bonus 7" with their maybe most difficult album, Two Cents Plus Tax, this song is pure power-pop.

in contrast, Deep Red's first song, Shooting Star. music to get addicted to.

RONDELLES safety in numbers

brilliant. everlasting youth.

Japanther's Ian (hidden behind his super-early HOW 2 moniker) is on their first album, Fiction Romance, Fast Machines - the very last track, not mentioned on the cover, but on the inlay. oh yeah.

EGGS skyscraper

.

another ridiculously underrated Teenbeat act.

even though the song is not quoted in the novel, it would perfectly fit into Rick Moody's Garden State.

BRATMOBILE there's no other way [Blur cover]

.
ten one-minute-songs = Teenbeat 100.

perfect tape-filler. and way different from what you might expect from Bratmobile.

and, just for fun, compare this obscure 55sec. Blur-cover to anything that, say, the Vivian Girls have released so far.
see?

TRUE LOVE ALWAYS r u coping w/ me?

.
maybe the best song True Love Always have ever recorded.

physically pleasing breaks, semi-candid melodies played with some relaxed, yet precise Unrest-edginess that always keeps a distance.

boy do i love this song.

TRUE LOVE ALWAYS mediterranean

.
cheap Mark Robinson-wannabees, most of the time you're listening to it.
but, sometimes, just perfect Teenbeat-pop.
all you have to do is to wait for the right mood- wave.

VERSUS forest fire (live)

.
the a-side, Glitter of Love, is a pure classic - a smash-hit from Versus' legendary Secret Swingers lp.

but the b-side, this slow warped live-version of Forest Fire, changed my life.
how can that be?

no more talking, see you tomorrow.

interpretations are welcome.

BLAST OFF COUNTRY STYLE hey hey i love you bitch

.
i love them sooooooo much.

got this 7" in tokyo, back in 2001, in one of the best record stores you can imagine. 7 floors, one for each musicstyle, and boxes filled with secondhand vinyl, sorted not by alphabetical order, but by date of receipt!
japanese seem not to have the strongest propensity to hoard things.

collecting stuff is much more fun when you get rid of stuff from time to time, questioning yourself (and the collection).

this song is dedicated to M.
don't give up! you'll find the right one.
