JAPANTHER change your life

.
for maybe obvious reasons, this song makes me cry.

doesn't everyone have his personal Japanther-story?

personally, i'm having five. at least.

anyone to start a special blog on that topic with me?

tellyourjapantherstories.blogspot.com?

common.

in january 2005, i made S. listen to this 7" at Parallel in cologne- a band he hadn't heard of before and instantly loved.

first (and until today, the only) time that such a thing happened.

dig that song from their brilliant Altin Village-album:

listen.

and buy it as long as you can!

.

HOOD sirens

.
their first 7inch. eighteen years ago. oh yeah.

listen.

.

ROPERS revolver

.
the first song on their classic All The Time album that is, incredibly enough, still available on vinyl.

listen.

buy the lp for a ridiculously low price!

.

HANK teardrops [Womack & Womack cover]

.
oh Dave, where are thou?

remember how you insisted on downloading this Hank song on my laptop, in november 2004:

listen.

buy as long as you can!

KAIA the world's greatest haircut

.

A., if you read this: this post is for you.

listen.

.

SPAIN funny how time slips away [Willie Nelson cover]

.
Charlie Haden's son.

by far one of the most underrated bands of the nineties.

maybe well-known to you, dear german thirty something-reader, thanks to this (again, ridiculously underrated) movie:

ironic grace, sung with a tired, detached smile.

.

THE DECLINING WINTER hey efd

.
even though winter is only starting. it's always time for Richard Adams' music to come to your ears.

this 7" comes with a mini album on CD - probably THE indie-format of the future.

the tracklist from their unforgettable berlin show, last year:

listen.

buy as long as you can!

.

M IS THE THIRTEENTH LETTER vol de nuit

.
what a fabulous split 7"! with Laetitia Sadier. on All City.

David Pajo, rehearsing for his first solo album that later came out under the Aerial M moniker.

listen.

.

TELEPATHE devil's trident

.
one of the few semi retro-dance things that appeal to me.

BIRDSKIN any other day

.
fond Normal Recordstore (the one in Bonn) memories.

searching for links in the net. but the store closed in 1997, so there's absolutely NOTHING about it to be found.

as if it had never existed.

how depressing.

listen.

.

QUAIL LUNGS dumb dadadum

.
Neutral Milk Hotel influenced. adding some fucked-up moaning.

not bad at all.

listen.

buy!

.

PINBACK fortress

.
how can one not love PINBACK?

listen.

.

RICCARDO DEL TURCO luglio

.
one of the easygoing songs on the world famous summer holidays-car-tape my father made in the early eighties, already mentioned here.

listen.

.

THE LOVE LETTER BAND i'll fall in love

.
there's some innocent mystery in this song.

i remember walking through manhattan in the march of 2003, it was snow-storming, and i had my huge headphones on listening to The Love Letter Band.

are these times forever gone?

put the needle down, and it instantly becomes present.

listen.

.

PSAPP hi

.

i guess that Dave would comment on this song this way: "cheesy. is that a coke-commercial or what?"

remember that scene with Jack Nance in Lost Highway, in the garage, listening to the free jazz -radio? remember the dialogue, and the way Nance (Phil) looks at Balthazar Getty (Pete)?

i like that.

listen.

.

LOW venus

.

You're fed up with your friends
You're fed up with the end
You're fed up with the make-up

listen.

NICK KRGOVICH i can't bring myself to smile

.
a song later re-recorded with opulent arrangement and less reverb on the GIGI-album .

i guess everything about this musician has been said in the older posts.

thanks, Dave, for insisting on P:ANO.

listen.

buy!

.

KNIFE IN THE WATER 2 spades

.
digitalizing the song i was confronted to a typical problem: the exact speed of a vinyl record. the label of this 7" indicates how long the songs 'lasts' - 4:18 for 2 spades.
so what? well, my Numark's pitch being at '0', the song only takes 04:01!

so what i did was to re-record it, lowering the pitch, to get a 4:18-version (that sounds way too slow!).
tell me what version you prefer.

dried indie-americana. a Glitterhouse-band, that KITW eventually ended up being.

listen.

.

ETHEL MESERVE pierman

.
out of the Underdog-universe, that i never really inhabited. admittedly a bit dusty.

listen.

.

GRACE JONES la vie en rose [Edith Piaf cover]

.
to be played at the end of the end of your parent's 50th wedding anniversary party.

listen.

.

HOLIDAY FLYER snowballing + roll those eyes over here + her star

.
post n°300.

among the five most important 7inches in my collection.

therefore, posted here in its entirety.

found in the mysterious nyc-record-store mentioned here.

i didn't even know about the existence of this 7". that's how essential things happen in life - don't expect, don't look for them.

enjoy. and thanks for reading this.

listen.

.

DODOS horny hippies

.
maybe the only san francisco-band of the last years i thoroughly love.

an improvised recording the day of their show at the old Magnet, last year in september:

and, more elaborate, in nyc:

listen.

.

THE NOTWIST panama - electric bar

.
for some obscure reasons, it took me a while to open my soul to NOTWIST.

many people i love adore them.

in the end, i've joined them.

Thomas Ott is a genious.

listen.

.

THE FAMILY WAY sugar baby love

.
a song to dance and smile, with or without a drink (gin tonic?) in your hand and someone cheek to cheek.

like in the old days.
