VERSUS forest fire (live)

.
the a-side, Glitter of Love, is a pure classic - a smash-hit from Versus' legendary Secret Swingers lp.

but the b-side, this slow warped live-version of Forest Fire, changed my life.
how can that be?

no more talking, see you tomorrow.

interpretations are welcome.

GEORGE HARRISSON my sweet lord

.
when leaving the recordstore in tokyo where i got that 7inch with J,, the luminous news-bands on the skyscrapers announced Harrisson's death.

to me, this song will be forever connected to a very old and used tape my father had recorded from the radio in the mid 70ies for his car. i discove-
red it at the age of seven, the day my brother was brought to hospital for incomprehensible reasons that made the whole situation even more frightening to me.
i spent the whole day in his room, crying and listening incessantly to the tape. My Sweet Lord was its first track. it gave me hope.

LIGHT tenth planet rock

.
sometimes, i'm a label completist.

of course, this
WJ-release is far from being the catalogue's best. still, still.

maybe enjoyable at 4am, played loud, drunk and tired.

.

TULLYCRAFT josie

.
thinking about the band in general, not about this song in particular, the supposedly joyous postmodern tweepop - label comes to my mind.

this sounds outrageous and totally unfair to you?
we
ll, all i can say is that a spontaneous google-search of these connected terms shows i'm not the only one to have such a categorization in mind.

this is for longtime scholars or those who feel like it.
and who were
already young in the 1990ies.

ALDEN PENNER l'espair

.

the woman i once loved and myself manufactored the covers for these 100 vinyl copies that alden got from the australian label that originally released it - another obscure edition coming with a crayon pack meant to color in the b/w silk-screened cover.

this one is different.

potato-stamped paperbags from the saint hubert-chicken-fastfood-chain, 7"-size-folded in a highly elaborate way: you have to take off the form-fixing staples to unfold it and get the essential inlay!

there are two different inlay-designs:

50 copies come with a tent-manufacturer-embossing, a company that was run in the 1920ies somewhere in ontario, canada;
the other 50 copies come with a unique foot-print (alden's, of course!).

34 covers are stamped in red, 33 in blue, 33 in white.

A is the first letter, number one. 9 is the highest numeral.

just in case you're wondering if there's any deeper signification.

THE DECLINING WINTER york city three

.
but, but... the season-transition hasn't even started, for christ's sake!

i don't care.

keeping up late at night. sitting in the kitchen room. listening to my two year old daughter's breath in the livingsleepingworking room. overwhelmed with sorrow and joy. and sorrow.

how can that be?

KHONNOR burning palace

F. insisted on me listening to Khonnor.

it took me a while.
why? because it's always more pleasant to discover things by your own, instead of being proselytized by someone, be it a good friend.

i've always been a little bit reluctant to recommendations, preferring to give than to get some. as many of us do.
damn. i 'm trying to improve. it's not that hard.

Khonnor was 17 when he recorded this.

RONDELLES revenge

.
U. and i went to this infamous Rondelles-show in the (at that time only 90% gentrified) Hackescher Markt-neighboorhood, in the summer of 2001.

back then, i was shooting pics at every show i went -and on this one, everything was perfect - the light, the crowd, the venue, the band! the first and only time O. wanted me to make him prints of every single pic on one film.

guess what? i forgot my camera in the club. U. noticed it half an hour after we had left the place.
it was still there, waiting for me near the stage.

WILL OLDHAM in my mind [David Allan Coe cover]

.
what a song. oh my god.
a cover version, but Will makes it all his own.

i'm repeating myself, but compare any of my Will Oldham-posts, this one included, to the stuff he's been doing since the Master and Everyone album. ísn't that a pity?

and i'm an open-minded person, you know.
