WIN FOSTER a man's heart

.
the obscure second release on Western Vinyl (when i ordered it from the label-mailorder, they were sincerely surpried i even knew about the release. a bloody completist i am.), and the only in existence of Win Foster.

not essential - appealing, though, by its artwork (you might agree) and the spareness of the musical resources employed.

Casiotone for the Painfully Alone meets Jandek - to put it in a flattering name-context.

listen.

.

JAMES & BOBBY PURIFY everybody needs somebody

.
a classic.

maybe only exciting for non-americans?
tell me.

listen to the song searching for it on the net (the post was taken down following the request of some silly copyright-sharks).

.

IDA post prom disorder

.
the first Long Distance Lovers split 7" on Tree Records.

an early gorgeous Ida-song.

a song to fit in your twenties and, by how i can foresee it, also quite well in your thirties.

listen.

.

DURA-DELINQUENT all lushed up

.
bought for pure completism-reasons.

but this song is not that bad - would fit well on a late nineties -In The Red comp.

APPENDIX OUT second perthshire house song + round reel of eight + twelve of them + hay bale blues

.
an exception to the rule. four songs in a row - the whole a-side of this unique split 7inch.
part of my all time top ten.

you have to listen to these songs considering them as an entity.

maybe the best stuff Ali Roberts has ever recorded.

and definitely the best season, the best month! to listen to it.

enjoy.

.

KISSYFUR sunny

.
Susanne Lewis - Azalia Snail's sister-in-mind. together they played under the Hail/Snail-moniker.

very prolific artist.

what about sunny?
to me: like the memory of a sunny beach while walking through a snowstorm.

HYDROPLANE please don't say goodbye

.
gorgeous. heavily Galaxie 500 influenced, but with way more sensuality.

LOW violence

.
first song on the timeless Long Division lp. gorgeous Kramer-production.

alleged innocence.

the a-side:

listen.

.

I AM THE WORLD shoot you down

.
you know the story, don't you?

so that's one of the releases missing the Trade Center.

listen.

.

BUILT TO SPILL scarin

.
an untypical Built To Spill song - at least considering their (here lacking) epic guitar sound.

a great opportunity to pay more attention to their lyrics.

listen.

.

PRAM omnichord

.
seen in the summer of 1999 in Brighton. deeply unappealing people. not far from the Broadcast members.

this version differs from the one on the North Pole Station lp.

oh, and it's amazingly beautiful annoying weird music.
(this might be the only sentence that really matters.)

listen.

.

HOOD john clyde-evans

.

stop. and go. and stop. and go. and

or

fail. and try. and fail. and try. and fail.

listen.

.

PALACE no more rides

.
the first Will Oldham 7" i bought.

a song to listen to at night. alone, at home.

this is post #200.

listen.

.

THE KINGSBURY MANX been passed over

.
what a hidden treasure.

enjoy.

this is the last All City 7inch to have been released.

listen.

.

PJ HARVEY man-size (demo)

.
remember she did at that time some big Doc Marten's advertisement?

was that cool?

the studio-version:

listen to the song searching for it on the net (the post was taken down following the request of some silly copyright-sharks).

.

MOUNTAIN GOATS the sign [Ace Of Base cover]

.
so very much essential.

on Hayfever's sadly defunct micro-label Sonic Sound.

.

ACE OF BASE don't turn around

.
have you ever noticed that the keyboard-sound on this song had a somehow UB40-synthetic-raggamuffin-crap-touch so much reminiscent of INNER CIRCLE's Sweat (A La La La La Long) ?
check it out.

listen.

.

PLOVER down

.
what a hideous artwork.

this is Rotten Windmill's first release ever, and PLOVER's first vinyl appearance.

listen.

LONEY DEAR i got lost

.
ambivalent feelings prevail with this artist: strong compelling harmonic intuitions, but many times too close from the evident, if not the cheap solution. Bee Gees/Abba style, without the disco aura.

this song is a bit different.

the almighty Andrew Bird plays the violin.

listen.

.

ALTRO scusa per me

.
bought at Underdog in Cologne in the summer of 1999.

italian emo-punk-core.
no surprise, it was the artwork that attracted me the most.

D. translated the lyrics for me a couple days before we started dating each other.

adolescent semi-angst.

long, long time ago.

listen.

.

GANGER geocities

.
one of the most under-appreciated Wurlitzer Jukebox-releases - to be found in many cheapo-bins.

not bad at all, if you ask me.

listen.

.

THE SOFTIES hey hey girl [Rocketship cover]

.
twee-pop-incest.

the original version has recently been posted.

listen.

.

URBAN LEGENDS casting stones

.
interesting on a name-dropping level:
2/3 of THE THERMALS and former HAELAH members.

charming catchy psychedelic-pop.

listen.

.

CAKEKITCHEN silver paper to a magpies eye

.
Peter Jefferies' brother Graeme.

a similar pervasive brother-spirit as in the Adams' brothers oeuvre.

listen.

buy.

IDA maybelle

.
F. cherishes that one.

part of his very real emotional biography.

part of my i wish i had been 25 in 1996/1997 - melancholic delirium.
